Blue Grass Chapter
The Bluegrass Chapter serves the following counties: Fayette, Clark, Bourbon, Bath, Scott, Fleming, Nicholas, Franklin, Woodford, Anderson, Mercer, Jessamine, Madison, Boyle, Garrard, Rockcastle, Jackson, Estill, Powell and Montgomery.
This chapter has always been very active in central Kentucky. There are events and programs that the members are encouraged to participate in. All of these are designed to create awareness for the local area restaurants, and to encourage networking between restaurant members and associate members, who service the restaurant industry with products, services or education.
Each summer, the “Taste of the Bluegrass” is held at Keeneland Race Track. Over 50 member restaurants and beverage distributors, located all throughout central Kentucky, participate. The public can enjoy cuisine and beverages, (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) from the finest restaurants in the area. The event attracts over 1000 people from around the Bluegrass.
The truly special part of this event is that the proceeds go to God’s Pantry Food Bank who feed the less fortunate families in our area and the Kentucky Restaurant Association Educational Foundation who provide scholarships to culinary students. The restaurants enjoy the opportunity to serve potential new patrons with their best recipes, while helping to feed the hungry of our community and educating future chefs at the same time. Contact the KRA State office if you would like to hear more.
In the fall is the annual Golf Scramble. More than 20 teams participate in this event which includes a light lunch and a buffet dinner following the tournament. It’s great time for the restaurant and associate members and their families, with fun competition.
Since 1980, the Bluegrass Chapter had contributed over $70,000 to the Kentucky Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, which provides scholarships to Kentucky students majoring in culinary arts, hospitality service or restaurant management.
